I came across this curious door in the middle of a beach in Malindi, a small town on Kenya’s northern coast.
I would look at it each day and wonder why it was built. What was its purpose, this door to nowhere? As I have come back to this photo and thought about that little door that sat in front of a big ocean, I tend to think that it could be representative of so much more.
How often are we held back by false limitations? A door that in reality isn’t the entry point to the waves and the beach beyond is exactly that.
Yet why does one feel constrained? As if the only path to the wonderful world of ocean, beach, beauty, horizon, limitless opportunity is through the door? When in clear reality all the door is, is a frame and not the sole entry point.
How many times have you and I been trapped by our false limitations, imposed by an unreality defined by our own State of Mind?
Striking photo. Makes me want to get out to the world’s hinterlands so I can see this kind of thing. Cool that you’re doing this now!

We’re Americans and live outside of New York. But, you’re right, in many ways Italy is our country!

Oops! Sorry for the assumptions based on the blog name but I’m sure there is a story there…;). I’ll have to check out your About page. For a NY story see https://safarigirlblog.wordpress.com/2015/10/13/bloomin-orchids/ !

Good question! Too often sadly is the answer. But I am trying to be more free-spirited and adventurous as I get older! Time’s running out!

A door is a metaphor. Depending on which side you are approaching it from, it could be: “Welcome home my poor tired child”, or “Welcome to the land of limitless opportunities”.
The choice is yours.
